Reading Reptile Book Fairs

A book fair is a terrific way to draw students and their families into the exciting world of great literature, while raising money for your school. There are different ways to hold a book fair, different companies to consider, so why the Reading Reptile?

If you'd like to schedule a book fair with us, please click here for our Reading Reptile Book Fair Sign-up Form. We'll get back to you promptly. (Sorry. We only do book fairs in Kansas and Missouri.)

BEST SELECTION:

The Reading Reptile carries the widest and most diverse selection of children's books anywhere. Your book fair will reflect that. The selection will excite parents and kids, and, (from our own experience,) incur better sales. The "roller-cart" book fair companies (like Scholastic) offer a seriously limited and repetitive selection of books, loaded with series books and the "same-old" selections that kids see in monthly book club orders. There is a whole universe of books out here beyond the reach of Scholastic and their marketing strategies. Your kids deserve an unbiased, far-reaching selection like the one we offer. But this is only half of the formula for a great book fair. The success of your book fair depends on the energy and involvement of your school's Parent-Teacher Organization.

YOUR ENERGY AND INVOLVEMENT:

Roller-cart book fairs afford you with an easy, hands-off event. Roll in the books, get the money and roll them out. A Reading Reptile Book Fair requires your energy and enthusiasm. This is not a drawback. It is a great thing. Your hands-on involvement in the book fair sends a very real and very important message to your kids - that reading is exciting and important to you, a life-long pleasure that you want to share with your kids. Reading is one of the most important aspects of a child's development. We all know that. A Reading Reptile book fair is an excellent opportunity for you to show your kids just how much it matters, to you. And it's fun! The institutional aura of the roller-cart book fairs seems lifeless in comparison, and obligatory.

SERVICE AND FLEXIBILITY:

Your commitment and energy will not go unmatched! Before your book fair and during, the Reading Reptile is at your service. We will do everything we can to help you out, with ideas and manpower. We will help you design and organize your book fair if you like. Should you decide to choose us, we will provide you with a packet of information outlining a general plan of attack, including book fair committee structures, job outlines, a planning schedule, operational tactics, volunteer coordinating, publicitiy ideas, helpful hints and more. You can use it as your guide or take what you want from it. We will be happy to supply you with publicity materials (clip art for flyers, etc.) as well. We will help you physically set-up the book fair and tear it down, barring any scheduling conflicts.

You will have as much input in what books will be at your fair as you want. Or we can choose for you. If your book fair is open for several days, you may replace stock as you need it. You may call us with special orders during your fair which we will fill if the books requested are on our shelves. The bottom line - we're flexible. We will also be happy to supply you with promotional items from publishers (bookmarks, buttons, posters, e.g.) for you to distribute.

COMMUNITY CONNECTION:

A Reading Reptile Book Fair builds a bridge of literacy between your school and the community by connecting your kids and their families with our store, a valuable ongoing reading resource. (In 1997, Family Life magazine listed the Reading Reptile as one of the top seven children's bookstores in the country.) Kids and parents can tap into the same great selection (and more) when they visit the Reptile, get knowledgable assistance, join in Story Hours, book clubs, meet and hear from authors that frequently visit the store from all over the country, enter our annual Young Writer's Contest, and much, much more. This kind of community connection widens the culture of literacy in an invaluable way for those who take advantage of it, and keeps kids excited about reading, in and out of school.

YOUR PERCENTAGE:

You keep 20 % of your total net sales.
