DEBT DEPLETION DAY
AUCTION INFORMATION

(In addition to our online auction – see below – we will be celebrating our 20th Anniversary – aka, Debt Depletion Day – in the store on Saturday, May 24th at 7pm, with a party and some live auction items as well. We will have all the auction items, live or online, on display.)

As we approach the anniversary of our 20th year in bookselling it has dawned on us that we are in fact running a business. This comes as a shock and a disappointment; for years we believed that elves were visiting our store at night with loads of cash and front list titles. This of course allowed us the peace of mind to pursue our carefree and playful forays against the saturnine realities of big industry.

Alas, the advent of online banking has revealed the sad truth: there are no elves. A shabby matrix of distended credit lines prop up our make-believe world. Darn.

We’re not in imminent danger of closing, but we are feeling the weight of 20 years of accumulated debt. Looking ahead, we’re gunning for a fresh start, so we’re having an auction to benefit ourselves. It’s a little bit weird, but not totally surprising.
